BACKGROUND:
Bartlett Park is located east of the City of Porterville, bordered by the Tule River to the south, and the Lake Success Dam to the east. Known as the Gateway to the Sequoias and Kings Canyon, Porterville currently has a population of 55,466.
In 1923, the original Bartlett Park was donated to Tulare County by William H. Craig, to be used for park purposes. Formerly known as Tule River Park, the name was changed to Bartlett Park in memory of W.P. Bartlett, a Porterville resident, who was president of the Forestry Department for many years. This park was inundated by the creation of Success Lake. The current park was park was provided by the Army Corps of Engineers. The park offers seventeen arbors, four restrooms, three playgrounds, and a large sports field on the west side of the park. Bartlett Park serves the communities of Porterville, Springville, Terra Bella, and Strathmore.
